Summary of the Project: The student program is designed to engage high school students in meaningful learning experiences and cultural exchanges surrounding the events, locations and activities associated with the Iron Dog race. This year we propose to expand the program to at least (2) two rural locations or more if doable.
Goals: To provide Alaska students the opportunity to learn about the economy, geography and life experiences that only an urban-rural cultural exchange can provide. We also aim to give students a sense of hope, opportunity and ambition as an antidote for the recent rash of teen suicide in rural Alaska. Safety is another top issue for the Iron Dog, and we’ll be integrating Safety as a key component to the curriculum going forward.

Students are required to record their experiences and share what they learned in the process. Sponsors also receive a complete package of thank you letters, presentations and journals of the students participating in the program.
