MISSION OF THE IRON DOG RACE
The purpose of the Iron Dog® is to provide reliable, consistent, safe and honorable cross-country snowmobile racing and recreational riding in Alaska while promoting and educating the public about snowmobile and winter safety. The Iron Dog race is a team race, consisting of two (2) persons and two (2) snowmobiles (track driven and ski steered).
The Trail Class teams may include two (2) or more persons, but each person must have their own snowmobile. The Pro Race Class runs from Big Lake (near Wasilla), to Nome and then finishes in Fairbanks. These participants will brave subzero cold, bad visibility, and deep snow to push their snowmobiles and bodies to the limits to reach the finish line.
The routing may be changed at the discretion of the board or as required for safety reasons. All participants will display honor and integrity throughout all of their involvement with the race. Racers are expected to treat Race Officials with respect and recognize their decisions as final at all times.
The Iron Dog® is the World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race, and is a true test of human and equipment endurance. Each participant is required to read both the current year Iron Dog® Event Rules and general rules of the ISR (International Snowmobile Racing, Inc.).
