We look forward to having your Flat Stanley race across Alaska with the Iron Dog!
The Flat Stanley project is based on the book written by Jeff Brown, which is about a boy who gets flattened when a bulletin board falls on him while sleeping. He is as “flat as a pancake”, which makes it easy for travel when he can fit into an envelope. More information about the Flat Stanley project can be obtained from the Flat Stanley website.
This program helps schools and children around the world reach out to far off places and experience another culture or climate. The Iron Dog® is promoting the Flat Stanley project to help educate children around the Globe of Alaska, Alaska’s History, Culture, snowmobile recreation, and outdoor safety of this esteemed Alaskan snowmobile event. The Flat Stanley’s will race along with race participants. Classrooms can track their Flat Stanley through the Iron Dog® web site and at the finish of the event they will receive their Flat Stanley autographed by their team.
In 1983 the World’s Longest Toughest Snowmobile Race was created, challenging participants to race across the State of Alaska through harsh winter conditions and rugged terrain. Today’s Iron Dog® still boasts the extreme challenge of the past with an increase of mileage from 1108 to 1971. This event begins the third Sunday of every February and ending on following Saturday. See our event Calendar.
