THE MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE IRON DOG OFFICE.

There is no specific agenda other than to give members the opportunity to share their feedback, ideas and suggestions for making the Iron Dog even better than the year before. Please come and make your voice heard. Here are some general topics we will likely discuss:

Upcoming Board Meetings
If you’d like to testify or simply present your WRITTEN suggestions, please let us know at least two (2) days in advance so we can get you on the agenda. Board Meetings are normally held at the Iron Dog Office in Anchorage. We HIGHLY recommend you send us RULES suggestions as soon as possible. The rules will be published August 1, 2012 so we need time to review and incorporate edits before July 2012. Thanks!

Iron Dog Raffle Benefits Alaska Combat Veterans
Alaska’s Healing Hearts will receive more than $26,000 from the proceeds raised by the 2012 Iron Dog Raffle. Kendall Toyota of Anchorage and Fairbanks are the presenting raffle sponsor of the 2012 Iron Dog Raffle. Alaska Power Sports, USTravel, Era Alaska, Shirts Up Serigraphics and Odom Corporation all gave generous donations to the 2012 Iron Dog Raffle. It’s through their support that we are able to raise funds for Alaska’s Healing Hearts. Be sure to thank our sponsors!

Kendall Toyota of Anchorage presented the donation at a ceremony held in their Anchorage showroom on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 9:00 A.M. local time.

James Hastings, Secretary at Alaska’s Healing Hearts said, “On behalf of Alaska’s Healing Hearts and the Warriors we serve, we cannot say thank you enough to the Iron Dog Team and the Kendall Toyota Family for their most generous support of Alaska’s Warriors. This is proof positive that when everyone works together, we can truly make a difference, and for that, again, we say thank you.”

Alaska’s Healing Hearts year round nationwide outdoor programs include hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreational programs for our nations brave wounded warriors, these activities are termed “social reintegration” by therapists. They are not just the clinical rehabilitation programs which injured military personnel usually participate in; they also provide disabled Veterans with hope that they can live active and productive lives. Based on our own experiences these programs help bolster confidence and self-esteem, while serving as a venue for them to assimilate with the public. Alaska’s Healing Hearts is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization.

Alaska has many great companies helping build the future for Alaskans. One is Alaska Industrial Hardware (AIH), which marked its 50th anniversary in 2009. With its half-century history, AIH has proved that a small store with a bare-bones beginning can grow into a strong and established company with the capability of flourishing and overcoming economic downturns.

Iron Dog shares a similar history of humble beginnings and the ability overcome the ups and downs of the last 29 years. We appreciate the support that AIH has given this year and look forward to growing our relationship going into our 30th Anniversary in 2013.

No all-rookie team has won since the first race when all racers were rookies. Only one all-women team has finished, Jackie Page and Missy McClurg in 2001. The third woman to complete the Pro Class, finishing in downtown Fairbanks was Jana Pevan-Peterson in 2012.

Polaris has won the previous 3 races until 2012. Prior to that, Arctic Cat won 10 of 12. Yamaha won 3 times in the first 7 races but has not won since 1990. Ski-Doo’s first victory came in 2004 and the second in 2012.

Tanana is the last hold before sending teams to the Finish line. Racers are held so we can schedule a daylight finish for race fans in Fairbanks and across the planet with KTUU’s Live Stream of the 2012 Iron Dog.

The top three teams will be released on their actual time separations. Teams in fourth, fifth and sixth place will be release every 10 minutes. Positions seven and beyond are released every five minutes. Many factors come into play when determining this restart interval including time separations, number of competitors and getting the winners to the finish line in time for TV broadcast.
